Not Exactly Shop Till You Drop

Posted on Updated on

We believed that factory outlet shopping experience should remain a North American enigma. The pined-for-ages treasures sold at ridiculously discounted prices certainly gave us palpitations when we had our shop-till-you-drop session in Camarillo, near Los Angeles and for my Q, at Woodbury, New York

[side note: James Bond had Q, the Gadget Whiz, I married one 🙂 ]

We thought we could resist the minor magnetic pull from the south of the peninsula.

We thought wrong.

I mean, what’s wrong with a short excursion to just check the place out after all the hype it got?
Amirite?

After a brief sahur at the nearest McD, we left KL at 0600hrs and drove 3.5 hrs south towards JB…

Everybody’s safely strapped for the trip 🙂

Due to really good traffic conditions (more like NO traffic congestion at all) we arrived at Johor Premium Outlets just shy of their business hours. It is actually not far off from the main highway.

Our benchmark for a Factory Outlet retail area is pretty much Disneyland-sized, thanks to our exposure to Camarillo and Woodbury. So, as we got closer to the actual JPO grounds, my unfiltered response was “WHUT? Is This IT?”

All’s quiet on the southern front… for now. Stores were gearing up for another day of manic shopping (mostly by our neighbours from Singapore) and we bravely took our first steps into Malaysia’s first Premium Outlet shopping extravaganza… (I was still spitting out – whut?is this it?)

Brace yourselves folks!

My beloved Fossil is here!! DON’T LET ME DOWN!

High Street: Youngish & trendy brands dominate here (Ripcurl, Quiksilver, Roxy, Skechers, Puma, Levis, Gap…)

Obviously, there are more stores than what is shown above. By the time we saw the shops WE wanted to dive into at High Street, photography session took a back seat. Our favorite spots were Adidas (decent discounts on apparel), Nike (shoes were sold at absurdly low prices), Quiksilver (buy 3 get 3 free) and of course Fossil (I Lurve Youu!)

It’s a good start to have such a place like JPO in this country, but it’d be even sweet to have tenants such as these (a.k.a our wish list):

  • Ann Taylor
  • Balenciaga
  • G-Star Raw
  • Hugo Boss
  • Kenneth Cole
  • Nautica
  • Superdry
  • Thomas Pink
  • Converse
  • Crocs
  • Jimmy Choo
  • Tod’s
  • Kipling
  • Crumpler
  • Swarovski
  • Toys “R” Us

and more restaurants too thanks.

Just sayin’… 🙂
