Chapter 2a: Immersing the Hip in Idyllic Ipoh

Posted on Updated on

The moment has arrived!
The Crown Jewel in our MothApp itinerary in Ipoh: Cafe-Hopping!

We can only eat and drink so much, hence I allowed Apprentice to choose the domain for our initiation into Ipoh Cafe/ Bistro offerings.

First mission: Find a parking spot in town before the Lunch Crowd descends!

Our adventure pretty much centered around the “Cafe Block” in Ipoh Old Town. It was incredulous that we found a parking spot just as we turned into Jalan Panglima, opposite of Plan B.

Being bumbling KLites, we sure “earned” our right to enjoy dessert and such as we walked EVERYWHERE around the said block under the blessed sun. As we stood on the sidewalk thinking where on earth the hip cafes were, the Edison Bulb was slowly turned on…

You guys look rather familiar... (gears in brain shifting furiously)

Hello. We WERE at the correct block to begin with!

But of course, hunger pangs were forgotten as soon as we whipped out our phones for “proper documentation”. Hee Hee Hee 🙂

These colonial-period buildings certainly lent nostalgic charisma as many of the original fittings were left untouched...

Both of us were in our own sphere, taking in the creative vibe from just this sliver of awesomeness:

Apprentice announced it was time for the dining initiation, so we tracked back to Burps & Giggles... and noticed the cute signage for "Buku Tiga Lima". The latter refers to the local version of a little "IOU" book that has been in practice many years back.

Our hostess saw the rivulets of sweat pouring off our foreheads and graciously steered us to the much cooler section of the establishment. THANK GOD!!
