Four police-blue trucks finally stopped in front of a white and blue house. All of our possessions neatly packed into 3x2m plywood boxes were methodically unloaded by teams of privates who followed us on our 6-hour epic journey from Johor Bharu (JB) to Kuala Kubu Bharu (KKB).

Spin Me Right Round

Image Posted on Updated on

Yes, it is 2014 and I am happy to come across this thingamajig that has served many generations in this country.

You want authentic coconut milk?
Visit your nearest neighborhood sundry shop (I have yet to find many in the urban zip code area though).
Meet the Coconut Grating machine. Please be advised it is only for the use of “professional graters” and refrain from touching the center orb-like object.. or you may prick your fingers.

1. Break coconut into half.
2. Take one half of coconut.
3. Turn on the machine.
4. Ensure bowl is placed as shown to catch grated coconut.
5. Hold half coconut firmly with both hands and press inner white part firmly against the
spinning center.
6. Transfer end product into plastic bags.

Coconut milk: Add water to end product, mix and smoosh well, take handful of mixture, squeeze your hand tightly over a clean bowl 🙂
